This week I designed and built a quick bike rack to store my young children’s custom bikes from two 2×6’s. You can check out the two bikes in the DIY Bike Build. This project uses the table saw, miter saw and impact drill. A very basic design, it uses a number of myContinue reading “This Week in the Shop: The 2×6 #Bike Rack”

This Week in the Shop: The Split-Top Bench with Plans
This week in my home shop I finished up a new bench project I developed for class at Nova Labs in Reston, VA. While simple in design and execution, it does involve a full suite of woodworking tools and a a custom jig to complete. This great intermediate project uses the Fab Five of a powered woodshop: table saw, band saw, miter saw, jointer and planer.

This Week in the Shop: Wood Hand Planes & Spray Finish
It’s not all kid-projects and makerspaces tours in this space. I have a little time for personal projects. After sorting my shop in my recent relocation, I cannibalized the irons from some really terrible (and I mean terrible) hand planes. I’ve reused those planes in three hand planes. I made two smoothers and one blockContinue reading “This Week in the Shop: Wood Hand Planes & Spray Finish”
Home #Makerspace: The Bread Box Project #woodworking #makerEd
This quick project makes a great starter box for grown woodworkers, but it especially shines as an approachable young person skill builder. This slick box teaches three major skills: measurement, accuracy in manufacture of parts and joinery. A teacher or parent can use this simple project to differentiate between beginning, intermediate and expert woodworkers byContinue reading “Home #Makerspace: The Bread Box Project #woodworking #makerEd”

Most of the time on this blog and @woodshopcowboy or WoodshopCowboy on Facebook, I showcase student-centered projects and articles. Sometimes I make projects for my own enjoyment and personal needs in my own personal makerspace/workshop. Here’s a peek behind the curtain.
