  1. Hello. I was curious what you use to model out your projects. I’m working on something complex and I am not very good at drawing with pencil and paper. I was hoping to find a tool that has a bunch of pre modeled ‘wood’ forms (2×4, 1×6, etc) that I can assemble in the computer and then print out a drawing of some kind.. It looks like you have just the tool.. care to share?

    1. Not sure what Mr. Patrick uses here but I use Google SketchUp. it’s free and works absolutely fantastic for woodworking. Get the book titled “Google SketchUp Guide for WoodWorkers” and follow it along as you sit in front of the computer. By the end of the first few chapters you will start to be able to make just about any plans you need on a regular basis. And by the end of the book, you’ll be able to design complex furniture assemblies. Happy woodworking!

  2. Vincent –

I swear I had sent an answer to you – but Mark summed it up so much better. I also use Sketch Up. Autodesk has a tool called 123D which can also do CAD, though it’s geared to building machine parts and 3D printed goods.
