As I’ve hinted at in earlier posts, I’ve officially moved my home shop (the Magic Shop, as I tend to call it) to my new home in suburban Texas. The move took nearly seven days to complete – two to three to move and another two or three for set-up. I’m very happy with the results.
Magic Shop #3 completed.
Left to Right: Shelf with misc. storage & jointer, power tool storage locker & movable shelves, power planer stand, pegboard with hand tools, bandsaw/router table (it’s now on 3″ castors)
Back Right Corner:
Left to Right: fastener storage in grey shelf box, Craftsman tool box, dartboard, shop-vac
Left to right:
Bicycle storage on ceiling. The large Art Crate Locker holds finishing and sanding supplies (as well as anything flammable. I’ve got to get this locked up soon. My son is getting into “I will break it! stage) while the smaller crate holds auto maintenance related supplies. The pegboard will hold garden related
Left to Right:
Household storage, brooms and stuff, radio. The green storage locker holds various electronic accessories. In the corner are some bulky auto related items, like an oil drip pan.
Left to Right:
Styrofoam for long panel cuts along the floor, shopmate worktable, buckets of rags and hoses, artifacts of teaching.
Completed bandsaw/router table.
Support struts attached by pocket screws. I used one 2×4 stud throughout this entire conversion.
The power planer stand with some recycled wainscotting as platforms. 2″ castors. Integrated with the height of the bandsaw/router table.
Here’s the empty pegboard – I ripped some 1x down into 1″ strips and placed those strips across the studs. The pegboard is about 3/8ths thick, which gives it plenty of integrity. Very little twisting, very sturdy. Minimum of structure.
Two new additions to the Magic Shop this move – I’ve hacked apart my workbench/router table to create a bandsaw/router combo bench. I’ve also made a moveable stand for my planer. By designing the stand around my bandsaw/router table, I can use the bandsaw/router table as a outfeed table to boot.
Make it safe & keep the rubber side down this week.
